Not only have I talked about and shown you faux leather leggings numerous times, now I am so proud about my feature on Good Housekeeping UK... which gives me a good justification to show you even more outfits with leather leggings soon ;-)

I do also wear real leather and my latest addition to my wardrobe is this supersoft THOM leather jacket which I have worn for Berlin Fashion Week. During my restyling session with designer Thomas Rath I fell in love with this leather jacket and for the QVC customer magazine INSIDER, Thomas styled it for me with my red leopard dress.

Paired with a dress, jeans or for a slightly more sophisticated look like today, a leather jacket is one of the most versatile and timeless pieces and can be worn all year round.

SCHWARZES LEDER

Schon oft habe ich Euch hier Outfits mit Lederleggings vorgestellt und jetzt wurde ich damit sogar im englischen Lifestyle Magazin Good Housekeeping präsentiert - was mir doch gleichzeitig einen Freibrief für meine nächsten beiden Looks in Lederleggings gibt, die in der kommenden Woche folgen, oder ;-)

Ich trage auch sehr gerne echtes Leder und diese unglaublich weiche THOM Ledejacke die ich letzte Woche zur Berlin Fashion Week getragen habe, ist definitiv mein neues Lieblingsteil! Während meines Restyling events mit Designer Thomas Rath habe ich mich sofort in die Jacke verliebt. Thomas hatte sie für mich zusammen mit meinem roten Leokleid für das QVC Kundenmagazin INSIDER ausgewählt.

Egal ob mit einem Kleid, Jeans oder wie heute in einem Schwarz-Weiß Look, eine Lederjacke ist so vielseitig, kennt keine Altersgrenzen und ist ganzjährig zu tragen. Eine Investition in eine Lederjacke lohnt sich also in jedem Fall.

The 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin is as diverse as the big city itself. It is located in the City West and is as wild as a jungle and showcases cosmopolitan Berlin.

Our friendly taxi driver (he explained us all sightseeing spots on our trip from the airport) stopped in front of the hotel but Jasmin, my photographer and I looked for the entrance of the 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin - finally we spotted it. Certainly not a typical hotel entrée and without a driveway, flags or anything like that! We stepped through the glass doors into the ground floor, which was even more... ehh... different. A discarded mini cooper, exposed concrete walls and bicycles hanging from the ceiling! A lift took us to the front desk on the third floor but I still can't get rid of the feeling it was only the back entrance ;-)

We walked into our „jungle room“ (they all face the Berlin Zoo, hence the name) and looked at each other, not quite sure what to say! Although it was a hotel room, I felt a bit like in a student accommodation ;-) The second room type, the „urban rooms“ with a different setting are facing the city. The young style, the spotlights with red cables hanging from the wall, handwritten instructions on the bathroom tiles, the woolen blanket on the bed, green plants and last but not least a comfy hammock in front of the full-length windows with a view - everything is different to a standard business hotel room you'd expect in the city. The close cooperation between architects and designers who have carefully and deliberately chosen every single piece of furniture and decoration is visible in the entire boutique hotel.

As a certified travel agent I have worked in the tourism and airline industry for many years, travelled a lot and stayed in all kinds and categories of hotels worldwide. The Bikini Hotel is certainly one of those design hotels you will always remember!

M i n u s
Personally I am not a fan of the „darkroom style“ with all black showers and toilets, green 70s tiles or spotlights. I prefer light rooms with soft colours, dimmed light and orchids in my room... in general I think the room was not really designed for female customers, not only because of the colours (there are different tastes of course) but the lights aren't suitable for putting on makeup, the magnifying mirror is far too high and you have to get used to an open shower - I mean really open towards the room without even a glass front.  Only next to the bed there is a curtain but that feels like you are in the hospital when you draw the curtain in order to gain some privacy... it also makes the bathroom area even darker. In my opinion the classic designers' principle of „form follows function“ unfortunately has not always been achieved.

S u m m a r y
On Tripadvisor somebody wrote „wonderfully quirky hotel“ and I think that pretty much sums it up! There is this special mix between casual „at home feeling“ and trendy futuristic design, a balancing act between low budget style and high technology.  Probably I am not the target customer anyway but I am sure it is a perfect choice for a young at heart, cool and trendy audience. It is definitely a very interesting concept and I am glad I stayed there and have no complaints but it doesn't reflect my personal style.

::: Would I recommend it? Yes - if you are looking for something different!
::: Would I stay there again? No - I am probably not cool enough ;-)

Das 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin ist vielfältig wie die Großstadt und wild wie der Dschungel.

Als unser Taxifahrer (superfreundlich - auf der Fahrt vom Flughafen erklärte er uns alle Sehenswürdigkeiten!) vor dem Gebäude an der Budapester Straße, schräg gegenüber der Gedächtniskirche und einen Katzensprung vom KaDeWe stoppte, konnten meine Fotografin Jasmin und ich den Eingang des 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin erst gar nicht finden  - nichts typisches mit Hotelauffahrt oder wehenden Flaggen, sondern eher versteckt  hinter einer Glasfassade. Nur nachts leuchtet die Neonschrift! Aber der Eingangsbereich innen ist dann nun wirklich... ähhh... anders! Ein blassblauer, ausrangierter Mini Cooper, hohe Sichtbetonwände mit wechselnden Bildmotiven mit fernen Straßenszenen und nicht zuletzt von der Decke hängenden Fahrrädern. Wie gesagt, nichts ist hier „normal“! Mit dem Lift geht es von dort zur Rezeption in den 3. Stock... und irgendwie denke ich noch immer, dass das der Hintereingang war ;-)

In unserem Zimmer, einem „jungle room“ (alle mit Blick auf den Zoo, daher der Name) angekommen, schauen wir uns erst einmal staunend an, lachen und sind etwas unsicher, was wir jetzt davon halten sollen... Irgendwie fühlte es sich mehr an wie eine Studentenbude als ein Hotelzimmer! Die Grünpflanzen erinnerten mich auch mehr daran denn an Urwald und meine Mutter (sie hat den grünen Daumen!) hätte sie sicher erstmal umgetopft ;-)
Der zweite Zimmertyp, die „urban rooms“ sind übrigens alle in Richtung Stadt gelegen und eben mit einem „urbanen“ Look ausgestattet  Mit diesem jungen Stil, den Strahlern mit herunterhängenden, roten Kabeln, handgeschriebenen Anweisungen auf den Badezimmerfliesen, der wollene Tagesdecke und nicht zuletzt einer Hängematte vor der wandhohen Fensterfront ist dies ganz gewiss kein Standard Zimmer eines innerstädtischen Businesshotels! Jedoch ist jedes kleine Detail bewußt gewählt und zeigt die enge Kooperation zwischen Architekt und Designer, die sich durch das ganze Boutique Hotel zieht.

Als Reiseverkehrskauffrau habe ich sehr viele Jahre in der Tourismus- und Airlinebranche gearbeitet, bin viel gereist und habe in unterschiedlichsten Hotels und Kategorien weltweit gewohnt - das Bikini Hotel gehört sicher zu den Design Hotels, die man nicht vergisst!

M i n u s
Persönlich kann ich einem komplett schwarzen Bad und Toilette nichts abgewinnen, auch moosgrüne Fliesen im 70er Jahre Stil sind nichts meins. Ich bevorzuge ein helles Ambiente, zarte Einrichtungsfarben, gedämpftes Licht und eine stilvolle Orchidee auf dem Zimmer... Generell finde ich, die Zimmer sind wenig für weibliche Gäste konzipiert und damit meine ich nicht nur die Farben, denn die sind Geschmackssache. Die Beleuchtung war kaum geeignet, sich zu schminken, der Vergrößerungsspiegel viel zu hoch und unbeweglich und ein zum Zimmer hin komplett offener Duschbereich ohne Verglasung ist auch nicht meins. Man kann zwar einen dunklen Vorhang neben dem Bett zuziehen, doch das macht das Ganze dann nochmals dunkler. Das Designer Credo "form follows function" ist hier nicht immer ganz stimmig...

F a z i t
Auf Tripadvisor schrieb jemand „wunderbar unkonventionelles Hotel“ und ich glaube, das trifft es ziemlich genau. Ich gehöre wohl einfach nicht zur Zielgruppe dieses Designhotels, denke aber, dass es eine perfekte Wahl für trendoffene, unkomplizierte Berlin Besucher ist. Es gibt diesen speziellen Mix aus lässigem „sich wie zuhause fühlen“ und trendigem, futuristischem Design, einem Balanceakt zwischen Low Budget Feeling und modernster Technik. Definitiv ein innovatives, interessantes Konzept und ich war froh, im 25hours Bikini Hotel gewohnt zu haben, ich habe auch keinerlei Beschwerdepunkte! Aber es entspricht eben nicht meinem persönlichen Stil und Geschmack.

::: Werde ich es weiterempfehlen? Ja - jedem, der etwas anderes sucht!
::: Würde ich es wieder buchen? Vermutlich nicht - ich bin dafür nicht cool genug ;-)

Auf Eure Meinung bin ich sehr gespannt!

BERLIN FASHION WEEK AND FABULOUS AFTER 40 STYLE INTERVIEW


GERMAN DESIGN BY JULIA STARP - BERLIN FASHION WEEK

Last week I was lucky enough to win a trip for 2 to Berlin Fashion Week! Dalla who bloggs about beauty and style at schon ausprobiert?! hosted this fabulous giveaway sponsored by Philips and my photographer Jasmin and I had the pleasure to attend a fantastic show.

A flight to Berlin, the  really cool 25hours Bikini Hotel in the city centre (there will be a hotel review in my next post) and a truly magical show in Potsdam were waiting for us.

Julia Starp, German designer and a lovely woman, we met her during the after show VIP party (see photo below), uses sustainable materials and produces in the EU only. Of course there is also a ready-to-wear collection available.
The very complex and delicate creations of her "Fairy Tale Heroes" show included characters such as Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, and the Snow Queen on the catwalk. It was really fascinating and you can have an impression of the design process in this short video.

I wore my THOM by Thomas Rath leather jacket which I will show you in a different styling in one of my next outfit posts. To add a bit of a spring touch to the grey and cold weather in Berlin I combined it with my new Ted Baker bag (similar)  which I got from the famous KaDeWe luxury department store the same afternoon which was conveniently located across the street from our hotel.

Deborah and I have worked together in the past on her style e-books which I assisted with several of my Polyvore fashion collages. She is an amazing supporter of mature bloggers and I appreciate her articles on style, trends and shopping advice. But I am even happier about our close contact via email and skype. For me it is the best part of blogging to get to know likeminded, professional women around the world!

JULIA STARP - FAIRY TALE HEROES - BERLIN FASHION WEEK

Auf Einladung von Philips und als Gewinnerin des Giveaways der lieben Claudia "Dalla", Beautybloggerin auf schon ausprobiert?! sind meine Fotografin Jasmin und ich zur Berlin Fashion Week gereist. Ihr könnt Euch vorstellen, wie sehr wir uns gefreut haben, ganz herzlichen Dank dafür!

Es erwarteten uns das coole 25hours Bikini Hotel (meinen Hotelbericht gibt es im nächsten Post!) und eine im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes märchenhafte Show in der Schinkelhalle im Rahmen von "Potsdam Now", einem Teil der Berlin Fashion Week.

Julia Starp - übrigens unheimlich sympathische Designerin aus Hamburg, die wir in der After Show VIP Party kennenlernen konnten (Foto unten), setzt bei ihren Kreationen auf nachhaltig hergestellte Materialien und fantastische Handwerkskunst. Recycling, upcycling und Herstellung ausschließlich innerhalb der EU gelten auch für ihre reguläre Designlinie. In Berlin faszinierte sie uns mit ihrer Show "Fairy Tale Heroes". Märchengestalten von Rapunzel über Dornröschen, den bösen Wolf, Medusa bis zur Schwanenkönigin in faszinierenden Kostümen auf dem Catwalk, dazu wurde in diesem kurzen Video die aufwändige Herstellung dieser Kleider gezeigt.

An dem Abend habe ich meine THOM by Thomas Rath Lederjacke getragen, die ich Euch demnächst in anderen Stylings noch häufiger zeigen werde. Und da das Wetter so grau und kalt war, brauchte ich unbedingt etwas frühlingshaftes! Am Nachmittag vor der Show waren wir noch kurz im KaDeWe, das nur einen Katzensprung von unserem Hotel entfernt war. Dort habe ich mir die kleine Ted Baker Tasche gekauft. Ted Baker ist ja bekannt für Blumendrucke und in der Frühjahrskollektion gibt es wunderschöne Modelle, wie z.B. diese Tasche.

Deborah, Stilberaterin und Gründerin von Fabulous after 40, der größten Blog Community 40+ aus Kanada mit weltweiten Leserinnen hat mich kürzlich zu meinem Stil interviewt. WHAT TO WEAR FOR A WALK IN THE SNOW


SNOW WHITE

Winter here in the Bavarian Alps means freezing temperatures and snow!
Proper winter clothes and shoes are essential here and there will be no posing in heels today but waterproof fur winterboots, a snow jacket and warm gloves! For a longer walk I'd even change into thick layered snow trousers and a beanie.

 The area where I live might not be known for the most inspirational street style or designer fashion. Instead, people tend to invest in high quality outdoors and sports clothes and our shops offer a wide range for locals as well as tourists who come here for skiing. My first time on skis was at the age of 5 years (many local kids even start a lot earlier now!) and I skied all my life but finally gave it up a couple of years ago... I had enough of the cold as I am a real summer person ;-)

SCHNEEWITTCHEN

Winter mit Schnee - eine weiße Pracht für viele, ich selbst bin nicht ganz so begeistert ;-)
Hier im Alpenvorland gehört er dazu, auch wenn wir im Vergleich zu meiner Kindheit wesentlich weniger Schnee haben. Ich erinnere mich an Zeiten, als mein Vater mit Ski über den zugeschneiten Gartenzaun fuhr, das gibt es schon lange nicht mehr!
Aber richtige Wintersachen sind hier einfach notwendig - wasserundurchlässige Winterstiefel mit warmer Lammfellsohle genauso wie Daunenmäntel, Anoraks oder Winterhandschuhe (von Ziener, einer Marke für Top Qualität und sogar aus meinem Heimatort!) Und für einen längeren Spaziergang im Schnee muss es dann sogar eine gefütterte Schneehose sein.

 Hier auf dem Land mag es wenig coole Streetstyles geben, es wird stattdessen viel Geld in qualitativ hochwertige Outdoor- und Sportbekleidung investiert. Das gilt sowohl für Einheimische als auch für Touristen!
Ich selbst bin im Alter von 5 Jahren erstmals auf Ski gestanden (viele Kinder fangen übrigens jetzt noch früher an!) und bin mein Leben lang Ski gefahren, weil es hier dazugehört, aber vor ein paar Jahren habe ich sie in den Keller gestellt... ich bin einfach ein absoluter Sommertyp!
